Against a level 83/boss mob, you character has a 24% chance to have its attack be a “glancing blow.” This does less damage than a normal attack, but more importantly, there is no way to mitigate glancing blow chance.
The jury is still out on this, but it appears that the crit conversion is simply a crit reduction for yellow attacks, so 104.8% crit should give you 100% crit on yellow attacks.
Hmm. Isn’t the first link pointing to exactly the depression in the white crits? Or are you saying that unlike the conversion of crits to hits for white attacks, the rate is reduced for yellows (but in theory you could get more to compensate for that)?
Kal,
The rate is the same; however it cannot be overcome for white, can be overcome for yellow. If you look at the second link I gave, there’s a screenshot of a warrior doing tests with Imp. Overpower (+50% crit chance) and 54% crit and getting 126 crits/1 hit.

Hmm. That doesn’t sound statistically meaningful to me. That’s what we’d expect, but 127 attacks isn’t that meaningful. If it weren’t overwriteable the way white attacks aren’t (so you’d have a 95.2% chance) we’d expect in the above situation that would happen on average once every 8 tries, given a similar pattern.
Not that it really matters in practice for ferals; as soon as you start getting closer to the white crit cap you should be easing off crit in general, and be extra wary of anything that could give you procs for that level of crit. The only thing that’s remotely going to get close to that level is FB, and that’s still pretty far off.
Righto, that’s why I said the jury was still out. I’d like to do some testing myself with FB (you should be able to get to FB crit cap attacking from the front with R&T, if you swap out all hit+exp gear)…but I need to figure out how block works for sure, first. Recount records blocks as hits for lower damage currently.
I’ve also held off on regemming since I’m still tanking somewhat frequently for PUG groups…and my regular 10m group does not have a DK or shammy for +155 agi, so it’s still a good stat for me.

Does the same rules apply to DoTs as to other yellow attacks? I had gotten the impression that while the application of a DoT can be a miss, the ticks cannot miss.
Correct. DoT ticks cannot miss, though they can be absorbed (shields) or resisted (typically only magic DoT’s)
